Plans set for Memorial Day observance

Purple Heart veteran Cecil Sandifer of Westminster will keynote Oconee County’s Memorial Day observance. It takes place one week from today, at noon at the Walhalla Civic Auditorium. Everyone is invited. Sandifer, one of an estimated 100 surviving World War II veterans in Oconee County, is also a leader in the county’s business and civic fields, a former state lawmaker, and a former city mayor. The Memorial Day observance will pay tribute to 210 local heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefields of war.
