Plea results in prison term

A plea of guilt in the General Sessions Court in Walhalla has resulted in a prison term for a man who admitted he shot and wounded a woman last summer. Marcus Oneal Craig this morning pleaded guilty to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and Judge McIntosh accepted the state’s recommendation of a prison sentence amounting to four and a half years. The judge was told that during a party August 22, 2014 at the home of the victim’s mother at Hare’s Trailer Park in Seneca, Craig and the victim engaged in an incident of “mutual combat.” But Craig’s lawyer, Keith Denny, says there was a moment his client could have walked away, but did not. The sentence amounts to 54 months—minus 194 days that the defendant sat in jail awaiting his day in court.
