Police chief to re-look at towing ordinance

The Westminster police chief, Dean Awalt, has been asked to take a new look at the city ordinance governing the police department’s list of towing operators.  And Mayor Brian Ramey said that once Awalt consults the three wrecking services on the list for their opinions on how the rules can be made fairer, the chief is to recommend changes to the city council.  Kelly Hardy of Full Throttle Towing and Recovery is hopeful his business will be exempted from the rule that requires wrecking services called by the city police to be within a mile of city limits.  Hardy’s business moved to a location eight-tenths of a mile beyond the one-mile limit.  Hardy told 101.7/WGOG NEWS yesterday he has faith in city officials to do what’s fair.  Hardy says he pays a city business license, belongs to the chamber of commerce, and is a former city fire fighter.  Earlier this week, he said he felt retaliated against for his role in promoting cruising in the city.  But Mayor Ramey said he knew nothing about the potential for Hardy to be removed from the wrecker list until 30 minutes before Monday night’s special council meeting, scheduled to consider Todd Chrisley’s proposal to acquire the municipal swimming pool property.
