Police combine to make arrest in Newry
The Walhalla police and the Oconee Sheriff’s Office combined to make an arrest this week, and they went to a home in Newry to find their man. According to an announcement by the Sheriff’s Office, Daniel Eugene Fortner (right) was arrested after officers knocked on the door of a home on Broadway Street. The 30-year old Fortner faces the following charges: breaking into a gas tank on a watercraft and the theft of a gas can, gasoline, and a Jet Ski battery on Sugar Creek Haven Way near Westminster; second degree burglary and grand larceny of a 1959 truck on the Shiloh Road; and charges of larceny and malicious property damage filed by the Walhalla police. Two addresses are given for the arrested man: Highland Avenue, Westminster and South John Street, Walhalla.
