Police criticisms touch nerve at City Hall

The criticisms by two men of the Seneca police for the shooting death of Zachary Hammond touched a nerve last night at City Hall.  Councilman Scott Durham defended the police and the city after Johnny Roberts and Tommy Byrd spoke during council’s public comment session.  Roberts requested the city require first aid and basic medical skills for its police officers to apply at injury scenes before professional medical personnel arrive.  And Byrd said he’s pleased that, at the request of Hammond’s mother, Angie, Governor Haley has agreed to look at the dash cam video of Zachary’s Hammond shooting.  Neither Roberts, nor Byrd, said it’s his intent to bash the city, but Councilman Scott Durham said, “It’s in the court system’s hands right now, and that’s where it should be.”  Durham said the city has cooperated in the investigation and “has held nothing back.”
