Post Office will NOT close

A spokesman for the Postal Service says there is no consideration being given to closing the Mountain Rest Post Office in Oconee County. Harry Spratlin says a Postal Service meeting this month at the Mountain Rest Community club has been scheduled to inform the community of a cut in two hours of window service at the post office on S.C. 28. Spratlin says it will also serve to inform Mountain Rest Community of other options such as the operation of a village or a contract post office. One Mountain Rest community leader, Mack Moore, says a contract office, run by a business, is not something that he thinks the community would want. The meeting will take place at 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon, January 31 at the Mountain Rest Community Club, and community residents are invited.
