Postal Service recovering

The U-S Postal Service is working to open post offices and extend mail delivery to as many customers as possible in South Carolina’s 290-296 and 299 zip code areas. The Postal Service says it experienced severe weather challenges during the past 36 to 48 hours. Operations in the Upstate and Midlands have been hampered because many roads and highways have been impassable—limiting the number of employees who were able to get to work. And that impacted the Postal Service’s ability to move mail between processing facilities and local post offices. Coastal locations are largely unaffected. With the break in the weather yesterday, the Postal Service anticipated the opening of more post offices and the extension of delivery to some of the customers who were not reached Wednesday. The acting district manager, Sharon Rogers, urges customers to clear areas around their mailboxes of ice, snow and other obstacles that many hinder letter carriers.
