A country cross-road near Westminster remains blocked to regular traffic this morning—the result of a poultry truck accident. At one point, that accident left chickens everywhere and a major cleanup facing Oconee County HAZMAT. Bobby Williams, chief of the county’s hazardous materials response team, said the accident occurred around 2 a-m at Greenfield and South Retreat roads. Williams says it’s not unusual for a poultry truck to make its rounds in the middle of the night. But nightfall and the dangerous conditions presented by what Williams describes as a tricky intersection may have been too much for the driver.
