Powell an interested non-bidder

John Powell once went to the expense of moving an old Walhalla house down Main Street—partly to save it from the wrecking ball. So, the question as 2014 winds down for the start of 2015, will the realtor be among the bidders next month to buy 502 E. Main Street? It’s the old house that Oconee County has placed on the market—a house that for many years served as the home of the county’s planning and economic development commissions. The answer to our question is no. Powell says the reason for that is he is encouraging friends to bid and he wants to stand out of their way. At the same time, however, Powell wants to see 502 E. Main change hands and preserved as a future home for someone in a Main Street area known for its older and historic homes.
