Power shift at the Oconee County Council

During the annual Oconee County Council organization meeting, the council’s newest members influenced change for 2015. And that change began with the election of District Two’s Wayne McCall as chairman, in place of Joel Thrift who was not re-nominated for another year. McCall was nominated by District One’s Edda Cammick, who took an active role in her first meeting. Earlier in the evening Cammick, along with District Three’s Paul Cain, received the oath of office for the start of a four-year term won during the November General Election. Cammick referred to McCall’s former status as a maverick councilman who, she said, did not get the respect nor the credit for which he was entitled. McCall responded: “I really appreciate this.” He pledged to lead the council in a way in which everyone received respect no matter which side that person may take on an issue. Cain was elected vice-chairman. Later in the meeting former chairman Thrift expressed gratitude for his chance to chair the council, pleased that McCall is succeeding him, and said he’s willing to work with his colleagues for the good of the county.
