Private meeting at OMC

Oconee County’s interest in property on the grounds of Oconee Medical Center for a YMCA led to a private meeting last night by some of the parties involved in the potential deal. As reporters were excused from the meeting room, Oconee County Administrator Scott Moulder and county Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Phil Shirley were there to speak to the hospital board of directors. Before the meeting Hunter Kome, OMC vice president for operations, said the board would hear from Moulder, but would not take action last night. Asked about the need to meet privately, Kome said that, as a private-not-for-profit facility, the hospital is not subject to South Carolina’s Freedom of Information Law. But if it were, he said, private talks toward a potential contract to cover a land transaction would be a permissible topic for an executive session.
