Probate Judge readies for same-sex marriage requests

Unless there’s another stay, the office of Oconee Probate Judge next week will start to accept applications from same-sex couples to marry. And the staff at the office of Judge Kenny Johns today began working on a revised form to facilitate such applications. Johns anticipates Attorney General Alan Wilson will appeal yesterday’s ruling by a federal judge. Unless such an appeal would lead to a stay, the office of the Oconee judge will accept same-sex marriage requests starting at 12:01 a-m Thursday, November 20. Johns says he expects a few applications, but no mad rush to his office at the county administrative complex.
