Proclamation recognizes 50-year business

After 50 years, the Duncans are still going strong in their family machine and tool business near Westminster. Several members of the family were present during last night’s County Council meeting to receive an official proclamation. In a building along 123/the Sandifer Boulevard, Oconee Machine & Tool operates 12 thousand square feet with 16 employees. District Four Councilman Joel Thrift gives credit to Joe Duncan for establishing the business in 1965. Its move to 123, Thrift said, set off a chain reaction of industrial development in the area including the Oconee County headquarters of the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative and the Oconee Commerce Park on nearby highway 11.
