Project “May” ‘Day’ for Oconee

According to the top economic development recruiter, tomorrow will be a red-letter day in Oconee County. For, at 11 tomorrow morning, there will be announcement that a mainstay member of the county’s industrial community will construct two new buildings—one of them to serve as its North American headquarters. Richard Blackwell of Oconee Economic Alliance confirmed to 96.3/WGOG NEWS this afternoon that drill maker Greenfield Industries will make official what had been cloaked by the project code-named “May” that it will be adding 38 jobs—jobs that, for those qualified, will pay $60 thousand a year. Greenfield is located off U-S 123—between Seneca and Clemson. It’s believed that at least one of the two new buildings will go up on a grassy area between 123 and the main plant building. According to Blackwell, Greenfield once sold that piece of the grounds but has since re-acquired it. The announcement will feature remarks by State Senator Thomas Alexander as well as the participation of Jeff Chee, the Chinese businessman who owns Greenfield Industries.
