“Project Plume” on next week’s agenda

An economic development project, under the heading of a code name, is on the agenda for next week’s meeting of Oconee County Council. Code-named “Project Plume,” the project in recent months has been described as an Upstate company looking at an Oconee building for possible relocation. At Tuesday night’s meeting, council is to consider a fee-in-place-of-tax agreement—a typical modern-day inducement to attract economic development. Project Plume is said to be willing to make an investment of not less than $2.5 million. The project comes before council at a time when Richard Blackwell of Oconee Economic Alliance has indicated at least two economic development projects are imminent. One apparently involves an Anderson company that would take over a former warehouse building on highway 123 near 11.
