Public may ride electric buses next week

In a few days, you can ride a Seneca electric passenger bus. The city has announced that the delayed start of service will take place Wednesday, September 3. That’s when Seneca and “CAT”—Clemson Area Transit—will deploy four electric passenger buses. Those buses were recently returned to Seneca for testing. The change from the gas-powered bus service will involve the re-location of the downtown stop to the lower level of the park where a new fast-charger has been installed. Last month “CAT” drivers completed a re-fresher training course, after which the buses began a series of scheduled final field tests. Bus maker Proterra also completed tests and upgrades related to the fast-charger stations—-downtown and at Oconee Medical Center.
