Public school officials disappointed by Senate vote

May 24, 2013

Public school leaders are registering their disappointment this morning with a vote by the State Senate last night that approves school-choice tax breaks. Dr. Mike Lucas, Oconee Superintendent of Education, and Rosemary Bailes, District Two trustee, see the vote’s effect as allowing funds to be diverted from public schools to private interests—which they believe have little or no accountability. In an email to 96.3/WGOG NEWS, Bailes said, “This type of tax credit will deal a hard blow to public schools in SC.”
