Public to weigh in on domestic violence

The co-president of the League of Women Voters of the Clemson Area, Sandra Gray of Seneca, says the problem of domestic violence everywhere makes for a sad condition—about which action should be taken in South Carolina. Gray says she draws encouragement from an effort by an ad hoc committee of South Carolina House members to try to curb the violence. The committee last month heard testimony and exchanged ideas with domestic violence experts and advocates for change. And next week the same committee will invite public comment during a hearing in Columbia. That hearing takes place Tuesday—a hearing at which State Senator Thomas Alexander says he will be an interested attendee. “This a great sign for us having these hearings prior to the legislative session that it to be a top item for the next legislative session,” Alexander told 96.3/WGOG NEWS. The October 7 hearing falls on the same day as the Silent Witness Ceremony—an event held on the Statehouse grounds to remember those affected by domestic violence.
