Railroad crossing to close temporarily

Once again, the Jacobs Road railroad crossing near Clemson will be closed to vehicle traffic for continued maintenance by Norfolk Southern. Mike Smith, resident maintenance engineer for the DOT, says on the crossing, the railroad intends to replace a temporary asphalt covering with a permanent one. The work will take place Sunday between the hours of 6 a-m and 3 p-m. Among those primarily affected will be Clemson students who live at Hart’s Cove, on the opposite side of the crossing. According to Smith, the DOT realizes there’s inconvenience involved and he asks that the apartment dwellers, along with regular 123 traffic nearby, exercise caution during the nine-hour period.
