Rain-filled pond concern for Westminster

A large body of water leftover from the days of the Beacon textile plant is creating concern for Westminster. Rhett Smith, a Westminster representative to the Joint Regional Sewer Authority, calls it a pre-treatment sewer pond. The pond has been filling with rain water and the concern, Smith said, is over pollution and health. The matter was addressed yesterday as Smith and others met during a JRSA committee meeting. The matter will be addressed further Monday night by the full JRSA. The old plant building has been demolished, but the pre-treatment pond remains.
