Rains continue Sunday

Heavy rain is expected to continue Sunday and into Monday in the Western Carolina’s and Northeast Georgia. Forecasters say the moderate to heavy rainfall could result in two to three inches of rain through Sunday night, with higher amounts near the Blue Ridge Mountains. The rain is expected to shift toward the north into Virginia on Monday. The Golden Corner has gotten more than 30 inches of rain so far in 2013, according to our weather observer Barbara Wilson at Hickory Hollow Farms near Walhalla, and recent rains have left the ground relatively moist. If the rains of Sunday occur as expected, some streams and creeks may rise over their banks. A flood watch remains in effect for the area with parts of North Carolina issuing flood warnings due to the increased threat of landslides and slope failures in the mountains. You should monitor the local and regional forecasts for updated watches or warnings and prepare to take action should flood develop.
