Re-design will cost Pioneer Rural Water

Pioneer Rural Water District anticipates a final vote by the Oconee County Council approving substitute acreage to allow PRWD to build its first treatment plant. As described during yesterday’s board of directors’ meeting, the 70-acres to be conveyed by the county are situated on highway 59 on the Fair Play side of Cleveland Creek. And, according to Pioneer General Manager Terry Pruitt, once the transaction is official Pioneer’s engineers will proceed to re-design plans. Pruitt said the re-design will amount to a six-month delay in the project and an additional cost of $250 thousand. The 70 acres replace 25 other acres. The 70 will be more than enough for the project, and there was discussion yesterday as to what use, if any, for the rest of the acreage. Pruitt said, “We don’t know what’s back there.”
