Red Cross at fire scene

American Red Cross disaster-trained volunteers assisted a family of four, one adult and three children, who were displaced from their home on Rufus Land Road in the Cleveland and Madison communities of Oconee County.  The Red Cross is
meeting the immediate needs of the family by providing financial
assistance for replacement of food and clothing, temporary lodging, and
comfort kits containing personal hygiene items. In South Carolina, the American Red Cross, on average, responds to a disaster every four hours. In addition to responding to home fires, many Red Cross volunteers are also currently assisting in many communities
throughout the flood-affected areas of South Carolina.  Last year, the
Palmetto South Carolina Region assisted over 7,100 individuals affected
by disasters, the majority of those being home fires.
