Red Cross workers deploy to disasters

American Red Cross volunteers from South Carolina are responding to two massive disasters in the East and West, helping people who have lost everything to the raging
wildfires in California and the devastating flooding in West Virginia. Sixteen volunteers are deployed outside of South Carolina, including three who are still assisting in Texas from the Memorial Day Weekend flooding. “Our volunteers not only help their own communities in times of need, but they are heading to bring care, comfort and hope to people affected by the wildfires out west and the terrible flooding in West Virginia,”
said Louise Welch Williams, regional chief executive officer for the Red
Cross in South Carolina.  “We thank our volunteers and their families
for their dedication to helping those in need.” The volunteers from South Carolina are helping with all aspects of the disaster relief operations, including sheltering, feeding and
logistics. In addition to 12 volunteers going to West Virginia, the Red
Cross is sending three emergency response vehicles to the operation from
Aiken, Myrtle Beach, and Greenville. HOW TO HELP [2] These are large relief responses and the Red Cross needs the public’s support now. Those who would like to help people affected by disasters like flooding, wildfires and countless other crises can
