Relief ahead for jail overcrowding

The court of Oconee General Sessions will accept guilty pleas during a two-day session this month. Public Defender Wilson Burr says the days of Monday and Tuesday, December 16 and 17 are reserved for pleas of guilt in front of 10th Circuit Judge Alex Macaulay at Walhalla. This morning’s count at the county jail was 164 inmates—42 over its rated capacity. And Burr predicts relief from the overcrowding if there are enough probationary sentences handed down. But he also says he doesn’t control the docket. That’s the job of the 10th Circuit Solicitor’s office.
