Reprieve fails to save old Seneca house

Thirty days have expired. But a Seneca official says 30 days proved to be not enough for a home owner to come up with the required financing to save an old house for which there is historic distinction. And Ed Halbig says he personally regrets that Brenda Knox, the owner, apparently could not come up with the money she would need to bring the S. Oak Street address up to city standards. Last month Municipal Judge Danny Singleton delayed by 30 days his order allowing the city to demolish the structure. At a hearing yesterday, Singleton re-affirmed his original order. The S. Oak property, near the corner of 3rd Street, was the home place of the city’s first African-American physician.
