Required approvals delay Seneca bus stop project

Required approvals have delayed Seneca from carrying through with the city’s third dedicated bus stop for passengers of “CAT”—Clemson Area Transit.  It was about one year ago that the city’s point man for bus service, Ed Halbig, announced plans at a City Hall meeting to create a bus stop with seating at E-S 6th Street and Goddard Avenue.  But the passage of a year has taught the community and planning development director that there is a much more involved than simply hanging a sign announcing that an area is reserved for bus passengers.  To date, Halbig says, Seneca has yet to hear back from two separate divisions of the state DOT in Columbia.  Nor has the city yet acquired written consent from affected property owners at the intersection.  A bus service advocate, D-J Donnelly, wants safe and adequate bus shelters at all bus stops in the city.
