Revenues add up, projected deficit shrinks

The budget deficit with which Oconee public schools close out the past year is likely to be hundreds of thousands of dollars below the projected deficit.  Gloria Moore, chief finance officer for the public schools, told a meeting of the county board of trustees last night that while not all figures are final, it appears the district will officially close out the 2015-16 year with a deficit of $500 thousand dollars—instead of the $3.1 million deficit projected a year ago.  The school district’s year ended June 30, and Moore says numbers are still being entered which will adjust the final line.  But, she said, it looks like good news.  The trustees, including Chairman Andy Inabinet, were happy to receive Moore’s report.
