Riding the bus would help, Thorsland says

Traffic backups at two Walhalla schools have come to the attention of Dr. Michael Thorsland, county superintendent of education.  In the days since schools opened last Tuesday, backups on highway 11 have been reported at the location of the new Walhalla High School.  And it’s a situation that Sheriff Mike Crenshaw says the Oconee Sheriff’’s Office is monitoring.  In Walhalla, the campus that served as the high school but has now been converted to a middle school has also seen traffic backups.  Thorsland says the other day Middle School Principal Scott Dixon counted 500 cars picking up 800 students.  School officials say car pooling and more students riding the bus would help alleviate the backups.
