Ripple of One success story Rebecca Roach

The strides by a young woman toward a better life are being heralded this week by Ripple of One, an Oconee United Way initiative. Rebecca Roach’s progress in learning parenting skills and how to better manage money position her to become the Ripple of One’s first graduate. The program relies on trained, un-paid volunteers to  shepherd individuals such as Roach to get out of generational poverty. In Roach’s case, she obtained a GED, enrolled to study nursing in college, and recently was promoted to a manager’s position at Oconee’s Tribble Activity Center near Seneca. She has done this and more with the help of a mentor, realtor Donna Absher. Some day Roach may wind up as a mentor for someone who, like her, needed help.
