River Birch to replace Oaks

The Westminster Tree Board is recommending River Birch trees be planted as replacements for seven oak trees which the Department of Transportation scheduled for removal yesterday. A recent incident in which a tree fell onto a vehicle led the city to discover seven Main Street oak trees suffering from age issues, including hollow trunks and limbs. The condition endangered pedestrian and vehicle traffic and led the DOT yesterday to remove the trees. The affected block was scheduled to have been barricaded to traffic, including the Grey Street underpass.
