Road variance granted home developers

Developers who want to build new homes in Oconee County not far from the Clemson campus received a variance last night from the county board of zoning appeals. That variance, as explained by zoning administrator Josh Stephens, allows the developers to vary 1.3’ from a short section of the only road that leads into the property where they want to building single-family homes and townhouses. The property is located near the Hart’s Cove apartments behind the railroad tracks off 123. And, previously the board had expressed misgiving about a new development accessible by a road one way in and one way out. Stephens says the variance approved last night is one piece of the puzzle that the developers must resolve. He said they’ll have to consult and work with both the DOT and the railroad, also.
