Rotarians get tour of the new jail

Members of the Seneca Rotary Club visited a place this afternoon that they hope that they’ll never have the occasion to see again.  They toured the new Oconee Jail, which Sheriff Mike Crenshaw hopes will open next month.  That’s provided some finishing touches are added and the state Department of Corrections gives its blessing during a final inspection next week.  Crenshaw played the role of tour guide and expressed confidence that the new 200-inmate facility will be more efficient and safer to operate than the county’s current and, often crowded, 122-bed facility.  At the start of the tour, Crenshaw sought to erase questions that the new penal facility will make for a country club atmosphere for its inhabitants.
