Rotary hears about “a different sense of place”

Chairman Paul Cain of the Oconee County Council promoted “corridor protection” during a speaking engagement yesterday at Walhalla.  To the Rotary Club, Cain stressed the importance of protecting the look of the major highways that bring visitors to Oconee County—highways 11, 24, 59 and 123.  He would like those who are bound for the lakes, trails, and waterfalls to encounter “a different sense of place” in a county that incorporates Land Beside the Water as a slogan.  Cain praised Walhalla for its Streetscape project and said Blue Ridge Bank is a good example of the “Rustic Elegance” theme which the county is pursuing.  He predicted that rustic elegance will show up in the construction that will become Hartwell Village at 123 and 93—where once there was a large textile manufacturing plant.
