Roundabout is a new concept for Oconee

If one life is saved, the money and the effort will be worth it. That’s the thinking of the South Carolina DOT as it goes about introducing a new concept next year to the Oconee County motoring public. Josh Makison, resident construction engineer, says in the works for accident-prone Wells Highway and Strawberry Farm Road in the vicinity of Oconee County Solid Waste is a roundabout. It’ll be an intersection that will rely on motorists to yield right-of-way as they make it through. “Essentially, it’s a big circle in the middle of an intersection and traffic all flows in one direction. And you just go around the roundabout until you get to the road you need to exit off on.,” Makison tells 96.3/WGOG NEWS.” While construction is underway next year, an adjustment will be required on the park of drivers as they make their way through a work zone.
