Rumor–roof leak at the new high school

A speaker during last night’s meeting of the Oconee school trustees said there’s a rumor that the roof leaks at the new Walhalla High School.  And today a district administrator said, “There have been a few issues as you have with any new building.”  But Steve Hanvey said the roofing company has taken care of the leaking roof flashing—pieces of sheet metal designed to keep water from seeping into the building.  And, as to another question raised by a supporter of the Tamassee-Salem Middle/High School, there is a punch list of items still to be satisfied in connection with the new, $54 million dollar school.   Richard Alexander, director of school facilities, spent yesterday reviewing the punch list and making sure all that is supposed to be done is finished.  Hanvey, the district superintendent for operations, said, “There are small things that are still being checked off the list but Trehel is working with us to ensure it is all done.  There is nothing major that would affect students or instruction.”  Trehel serves as the construction management firm for the project.
