Salem pleased at 1% commission’s vote

This week’s vote by the Oconee Capital Project Sales Tax Commission recommends two Salem area projects go on the ballot for this fall’s referendum, and one town official describes Salem leaders as very pleased. Pleased even though that in one of the projects, the commission lumped a new library which, until Monday’s meeting, had been grouped with all other library improvements countywide. According to Brad Norton, attorney for the town of Salem, the town is fine with the prospect of pairing a new Salem library on the same campus as a Salem recreation and senior center. The library now shares space with town offices. “At this point, I think, the town and the library board are going to each appoint several people to meet and try to figure out how we are going to do that,” Norton said.
