Salem police appeal for the public’s help

The Salem police are requesting anyone with information that can help solve a fraud case uncovered last week at one of the town’s places of business. Around 2:30 Thursday afternoon a white female, accompanied by an elementary-age girl, entered the business and began to sell tickets for what she said was a fundraiser involving Tamassee-Salem Elementary School. The police quoted the business proprietor as saying that each ticket sold, for the benefit of St. Jude’s Cancer Research, would be entered into a WGOG raffle. She claimed WGOG was giving away a 1999 burgundy Ford Focus. The police have determined that Tamassee-Salem Elementary is not conducting any door-to-door fundraiser for any organization, nor is WGOG raffling a car. According to the announcement by Chief of Police David Poulson, anyone with information about this case or who has been approached by the suspects is asked to contact his department or the Oconee Sheriff’s Office.
