Salem to divvy out money to crime victims

Town of Salem will re-unite five crime victims with money they lost when they thought they had contributed to a fundraiser for the Tamassee-Salem Elementary School. Town Judge Jim Williams says five people are due to share in $150 dollars’ restitution paid by a woman who sold chances for a car to be given away on 96.3/WGOG. The station was participating in no such contest and the elementary school was not involved in the fundraiser. According to Judge Williams, the defendant in the case pleaded guilty last week in Municipal Court to a charge of obtaining money by false pretence. She was ordered to make restitution and pay a court fine amounting to $262.50.
