Sanctuary Pointe plan changes

The Sanctuary Pointe developers are making official their change of plans for the peninsula on I-85 at Lake Hartwell in Oconee County.  They are announcing a partnership with state agencies and regional recreation management groups for an Outdoor Life Center.  Sanctuary Pointe now says it has approval from the Corps of Engineers and the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism for a revised master plan that incorporates an Outdoor Life Center component. Project development co-manager El Henry says they are moving ahead with forming a 501c3 nonprofit corporation of private sector partners, public entities, and community leaders. A board of directors and its executive director will oversee the center’s design and development, as well as the on-going operations of the Center. “The Outdoor Life Center provides an amenity at Sanctuary Pointe that will deliver a host of activities for the entire family as well as a unique corporate meeting venue,” says Kris Miller, president of Atlanta-based Ackerman & Company, part of the Sanctuary Pointe LLC ownership team. The Outdoor Life Center complex is to include an adventure center with zip lines, a ropes course, bike rental facilities, a lakeside center for flat-water recreation, indoor and outdoor archery ranges, a 3D Archery Field Course, an amphitheater, walking and hiking trails, visitors services, a café, environmental education classrooms, along with indoor and outdoor meeting spaces.  Other outdoor amenities are under consideration. Jack Wise of Wildwater, Ltd is described as an enthusiastic supporter of the Outdoor Life Center with plans for significant participation. Wildwater operates outdoor adventure and recreation facilities throughout the Upstate and the Carolinas. Their plans include both the Adventure Park and the Lakeside Center. Another element is archery. Ginger Hopwood, professional archer, is providing planning services for the design, development and program activities for an Archery Center at the Outdoor Life Center. According to today’s announcement, plans continue moving forward with negotiations for a resort hotel and conference center and resort harrbor. Developers for those have been identified, but no formal contracts have been announced. The Outdoor Life Center is working with Greenville Health System for wellness and fitness programs.
