Sancutary Pointe public meeting

From the developers will come word this month during a public meeting as to exactly what they are pursuing for a prized peninsula off I-85 in Oconee County. Marion Edmonds, a spokesman for the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, says the Sanctuary Pointe public information meeting will take place 6:30 Tuesday night, March 26 at the South Union Baptist Church. State budget authorities recently approved the PRT’s sublease of around 300 acres to the Sanctuary Pointe developers. As for the quality of what’s to be built there alongside the northbound I-85 lanes just across the water from Georgia, Edmonds said, “That’s been the plan for almost 30 years now. The Army Corps of Engineers will continue to be very much involved. They actually own the property on behalf of the federal government. They lease it to us, the State of South Carolina and the State Park Service to prepare for quality recreation….Then the developers, Sanctuary Pointe, will actually be the folks to put together the package to make it happen,” Edmonds told 96.3/WGOG NEWS.
