Sandifer meets with Michelin

State Representative Bill Sandifer says he came away from a meeting yesterday with tire maker Michelin with the impression that the company is sold on Oconee—even though there is not yet a final deal. Sandifer talked business and other issues this morning with a policy committee of the Oconee Chamber of Commerce at Seneca. (From his Michelin meeting) “They like the fact that it is on the Char-lanta freeway and, so from that standpoint, I think you’ll see once Michelin makes the formal announcement you’ll see a little bit of steel on the ground and you’ll begin to see that park down at Fair Play start exploding with new tenants,” Sandifer told the committee. Oconee County Councilman Paul Corbeil says 270 acres at Golden Corner Commerce Park are considered buildable. Sandifer’s prediction is a signal that Michelin won’t require the entire acreage, meaning there will be opportunities for other tenants, as well.
