Sandifer shudders at the thought

Last year’s breach of the records system at the State Department of Revenue remains a police investigation, but reports have leaked out that suggest South Carolina may have paid a ransom to the perpetrator as a way to recover what’s lost and learn how the breach was carried out. “It is my sincere hope that a ransom has not been paid because there would be nothing gained by paying a ransom for this information that may have already been copied many, many times,” State Representative Bill Sandifer says. But Sandifer says he can’t be sure what exactly has been done or not done in the investigation because those in charge haven’t said.
