Saturday’s event to be the first of two

This Saturday’s event to recognize Oconee County’s Vietnam-era veterans will be the first of two over the next three years. Organizers are hoping the 2 o’clock ceremony at Seneca’s Gignilliat Community Center will attract hundreds who served during the war years 1965 to 1975. A special, 50th Anniversary Vietnam War Commemorative flag will be unveiled and remarks made by local officials—including Alex Macaulay, former state senator, retired circuit judge, and a former Vietnam combat medic. The Defense Department has commissioned Oconee County, through its Veterans Council, to organize and produce no fewer than two countywide events each year for the next three years.
