School supporters return in smaller numbers

Tamassee-Salem supporters returned in smaller numbers to last night’s meeting of the Oconee School Board of Trustees.  Though many of their expressions were subdued, they are still hopeful the trustees will see fit to reverse their decision and keep open their middle and high school beyond the end of the current school year.  Two of last night’s speakers—Lynn and Eddie Martin—vowed they’ll return each month with questions and criticisms of district spending.  Mrs. Martin has filed a lawsuit as the result of the school closing decision.  In response to items, Chairman Andy Inabinet said district officials welcome public scrutiny of school spending, but he requested they ask for explanation or clarification before concluding an instance of wasteful or improper spending.  The last of five speakers last night, Scott Rogers, said, at the least, he’s hoping the trustees will compromise on the issue of whether to rename Walhalla High.
