Schools open, no major problems

Just a few hours in, Oconee public schools are experiencing a good opening today—the first day back  from summer vacation.  Dr. Michael Thorsland, county superintendent, spoke to 101.7./WGOG NEWS, from the West-Oak attendance area.  “I’ve been to seven schools this morning in the West-Oak area and the Career Center and it seems like things have gone very smoothly.”   This is also the start of classes at the new Walhalla High in Picket Post community.  The old high school complex is now a middle school.  A traffic backup in front of Walhalla Middle is something that Thorsland says is often typical of the first day of classes, but he predicts that will subside in the next few days.
