Schools recognized for achievement

The SC Department of Education announces the recipients of the Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards for the current school year. More than 650 schools and career centers, including 12 Oconee schools, were recognized for general performance, closing the achievement gap, or qualifying in both categories. The following Oconee schools received gold awards for general performance: Fair Oak Elementary, Hamilton Career Center, Keowee Elementary, Tamassee-Salem Elementary, Tamassee-Salem High School, Walhalla Elementary, Walhalla Middle School, Walhalla High School, Westminster Elementary, and West-Oak High School. Three schools received additional silver awards for closing the achievement gap: Keowee Elementary, Tamassee-Salem Elementary, and Walhalla Elementary. Because the SC Education Oversight Committee revised the criteria this year, fewer schools were recognized.
