SCI withdraws tower request

The Oconee County zoning administrator confirmed this morning that a company seeking permission to put up a cell phone tower in Long Creek has withdrawn its application. Josh Stephens, the zoning administrator, said his office was informed late last week by the SCI legal representative that the company will pursue other properties for the tower. SCI’s withdrawal comes in the face of opposition by several Long Creek property owners. The withdrawal means that, at its meeting this Thursday, the county board of zoning appeals will not take up the application. In the meantime, there are rumors that another cell phone company is canvassing Mountain Rest to see if residents there would entertain a tower on their properties. Stephens has heard the rumors, also, but, so far, no such company has made the required application of his office.
