Scott talks about the fight against poverty

A South Carolina U-S senator is talking about a new track toward fighting poverty.  At a Washington hearing, Republican Tim Scott touted his Investing in Opportunity Act.  Scott is a co-supporter of a bill that creates a new model for unlocking private investment in economically distressed communities in every state. It offers a temporary capital gains deferral in exchange for reinvesting those dollars into distressed communities. Scott spoke at a Senate Finance Committee hearing. Currently, more than 30 percent of South Carolina’s population, or 1.4 million people, live in an economically distressed area, a number that rises to 50 million Americans nationwide.
