Seahawks top Packers 14-12 on controversial game-ending play

The controversial call as referees call a touchdown after Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate pulled in a last-second pass by Russell Wilson to defeat the Green Bay Packers at CenturyLink Field in Seattle Monday night.

The growing anger over the performance of the NFL’s replacement officials may have reached critical mass Monday night over a controversial, game-ending touchdown that gave the Seattle Seahawks a 14-12 win over the Green Bay Packers in Monday Night Football. Seattle receiver Golden Tate was awarded a touchdown on a 24-yard desperation pass that many thought was an interception by Green Bay’s M.D. Jennings, who appeared to catch the ball against his body and then wrestled with Tate for possession. But it was ruled on the field as a touchdown for Tate, and after a lengthy review, that call stood. Referee Wayne Elliott told a pool reporter after the game that the play was ruled as simultaneous possession that was awarded to Tate. After the lengthy review, the teams were called back on the field for the extra point. After the game, Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy said, “Don’t ask me a question about the officials. I’ve never seen anything like that in all my years in football.” Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman tweeted his response, saying, “These games are a joke.” The regular referees have been locked out by the league since their previous contract expired before the season began.
